First gear manual tips

 · First day felt like a novice stalling when bringing clutch up at idle. Read up on our dual disc setup and figured out its like a 2 step process. Initial bite of the first disc to get jeep rolling and full grab when 2nd disc hits. On steep inclines I bring it to about rpm and once I feel first bite and it starts rolling I bringing it all the way. Find a flat parking lot, and put the car into first. Without using the gas, slowly (and I mean slowly) release the clutch pedal. When the car lurches forward and the engine starts dragging you'll know where the bite point is. Clutch back in and take it out of gear. The two hardest gears for learning how to drive a manual transmission are first and reverse, so practice in first and reverse. Go to a parking lot-- this is where you're going to start out for your first lesson in a manual transmission-- and learn clutch control. Move the gear shift into first gear, to the left and away from you. Release the emergency, or parking, brake. Slowly ease off of the clutch and give the engine a little gas. Watch the needle on your tachometer. You can completely release the clutch when the needle is between 1, and 2, rpm. Drive forward in first gear. • When slowing in a manual car, simply brake until the tachometer drops to 1,rpm and then push in the clutch. When the vehicle comes to a complete stop shift back to first gear. OR shift to the appropriate gear for the speed you're travelling. • DO NOT take the selector out of gear and coast in neutral. That spot is pretty much the key to driving manual, it's called the contact point. Okay, now that you have the contact point, what you want to do to get into gear is put a good amount of gas in (i use about rpms, but I first learned to do it at ) and release the clutch to that contact point.

Position the gear shifter so that the transmission is in the first gear. Remove your right foot from the brake pedal. If you are on a flat surface, the vehicle should move very little. Slowly begin to place less pressure on the clutch with your left foot. The two hardest gears for learning how to drive a manual transmission are first and reverse, so practice in first and reverse.
